In the year of 1995 my step son fell dead at the age of thirty three. In the year of 1995 my step son fell dead at the age of thirty three. This was all a surprise to us, we later realized the cause of death was due to a rare genetic syndrome of the connective tissue (Marfans Syndrome). At this time my birth son (22), was checked and was diagnosed with the same disorder. Little did we know that beginning at the age of thirty, would begin a long road of surgery after surgery due to Marfans. It all began with the first surgery for an abdominal aneurysm that we didn’t know he had. From then on every year since, Jonathon has had to have major heart surgeries and repairs. The last one in April of 08 was a complete removal of the aorta. With research we have found that only 50% of people with this disorder only live to be 30. It has been God’s grace and mercy that has kept him alive. In Feb.of 08, my husband, had a heart attack. He was air lifted to St. Louis, Missouri, where he underwent heart surgery. A couple hours after surgery; He was in the recovery room, and the doctor came and told us, that he had a tear in his aorta going from his heart to his kidney. In order to fix this problem the medical team would have to have emergency surgery again. With this situation the doctor, had told us that it would be a rare chance of survival, but without it he could not survive. We hung onto faith and proceeded with the surgery. After an 8 hour surgery, my husband was back in recovery for 5 days. Due to the surgery on the 6th day, he was having lung complications. With reluctance, the doctors said that he would have to have surgery on his left lung. The risks were high because of the previous surgeries. Once again we proceeded with the surgery, and he made it through by the mercy of God. John’s road to recovery in the hospital lasted six weeks. From then, it has been a slow go, and has taken a lot of patience and time to help John get better. Each day he is getting stronger and we owe all the credit to God. Through the Pierce family ministry the Lord has given us words of hope and encouragement that by prayer and faith my son and husband was going to be ok. We are very blessed to have them in our lives. There is so much that we can thank the Pierce family and God for, but words could not express our love and appreciation for them. [hide full text]
